New ICMR head

At a time when headlines are dominated by the news about the how and why of resignations of directors of Indian Institute of Technology, Film and Television Institute of India, and, who-knows-what’s-in-store for Delhi University, why did such few news outlets note, let alone celebrate, the appointment of Dr. Soumya Swaminathan as the director-general of the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR)?

Only the second woman in 100 years of ICMR!!

It needed a science outlet like Nature India to note that?

Good news in the scientific world is not news?

Good news about a woman in India is not news?

Dirty news is the only news?

One Response to New ICMR head

Not just Dirty, but sensationally so.
But! Women in the Banking sector, and in Industry generally, do make the news.
Perhaps its just ICMR not being newsworthy… Or gender and ICMR not being an issue???
